Testing Methodology v1.1

We do not publish reviews we would not trust ourselves. Here is exactly how we test, score, and stand behind every product we recommend.

Our Testing Process

  1. Independent Procurement

We purchase review units at retail price whenever possible. If a manufacturer sends a sample, we disclose it clearly. We never accept payment for a positive review.

  2. Lab Benchmarking

Every product enters our test lab for objective measurements. Depending on the category, this includes power consumption, thermal performance, noise levels, color accuracy, throughput, and battery life - using industry-standard tools and calibrated equipment.

  3. Real-World Usage

Lab data alone is not enough. Each product is used as an everyday consumer would for a minimum of 7 days (or 14 days for flagship reviews). We test across real scenarios: work, travel, gaming, and casual use.

  4. Comparative Analysis

We compare each product against 2-5 direct competitors in the same price tier. This side-by-side testing reveals real differences that spec sheets cannot.

  5. Scoring & Verdict

Based on lab data and real-world experience, we assign scores across 3-5 categories (e.g., Performance, Design, Value, Usability). The weighted average produces the final score.

  6. Ongoing Re-evaluation

Products are re-tested when major firmware updates arrive, or when new competitors launch. Scores and Editor's Pick status may change over time.

Scoring System

Each review uses category-specific scoring criteria. Scores are on a 0-10 scale:

Score Range Meaning
9.0 - 10 Exceptional - best-in-class, Editor's Pick candidate
7.5 - 8.9 Very Good - recommended for most buyers
6.0 - 7.4 Good - solid choice with some compromises
4.0 - 5.9 Average - consider alternatives first
Below 4.0 Poor - not recommended

Category weights vary by product type. For example, a laptop weights Performance at 35% and Design at 20%, while a mouse weights Usability at 40%.

Not every product we test earns a recommendation. Editor's Picks are the select few that:

Editor's Picks are highlighted with a Pick badge across the site.
